Emiliano Zapata is located in Cieneguillas Community, in the border area of the State of México. It is in the second belt sheltering surrounding territory to Sanctuary Sierra Chincua.

At practically every school, children perfectly distinguish the life-cycle of Monarchs nowadays, especially knowing about the role of the overwintering generation for the species’ survival. During the presentation at every school, Journey North’s message includes the importance of surrounding healthy and abundant prairies which are not abundant anymore in our landscape. Children don't seem to see animals like “ajolotes,” or “salamanders", frogs, bees, beetles, etc.  They had not realized the importance of the equilibrium between forests, prairies, water supply, polinization, agriculture, and other factors which, in a whole, make Monarchs’ survival possible. And how it is true for other animals and our own survival.

During the exchange of ideas and comments in the classroom remembering the terrible damage the storm of last March 2016, children immediately raised their hands eagerly telling about the horrible way power lines, trees, and roofs were thrown down and blown away.  They were simply amazed to know that although so many Monarchs died, a considerable population of them managed to survive in the forests!  This shows the importance of keeping our forests healthy and populated, in order to protect our flora, fauna and ourselves!
