Emiliano Zapata Elementary, Grades 3, 4, and 6
This school is located in “El Asoleadero” community, neighboring community to “El Rosario” Sanctuary.

This is a very highly populated school as the previous schools visited in the surroundings of “El Rosario” Sanctuary.  This community guards the forests sheltering the Monarchs’ Sanctuary forests and share decisions and rights and benefits with the Ejidatario families of the “El Rosario” community.  Many of these children support their parents on the weekends with chores having to do with Monarchs Habitat conservation, either caring for tree nurseries, cleaning up the forests, doing some souvenir sales, etc. Many others earn some money on their own caring of cars from tourists, helping their moms selling souvenirs, serving tables at local restaurants at the Sanctuaries, etc. 

Students recognize Rocinante and come over immediately to ask questions, 

"Is it that you are coming to tell us more about the Monarchs?  They arrived here weeks ago!  I’ve been at the Woods up there to see them with my father and brothers!

A delicious ice-cream is very welcomed by many at any time of the day.  Only 3 to 5 pesos will be enought to get simple or doublé-ball ice-cream.

Journey North is considered a guest of honor for the school, so children ask to wait until the classroom is clean and tidy before Estelita comes in! Students crowd into the classroom to receive the Journey North’s “Green Message.”  Estela is impressed to see the crowd of children coming in!  Not seen often at a school so far!

Sharing the Monarchs’ life-cycle line is indeed one of the most exciting moments at every school. Students love to touch each figure at each stage of a Monarch’s developement.  It is in this part of the message that children make it clear for themselves what the whole year Monarchs’ life-cycle is about.  They are proud of the role we locals play to preserve Monarchs’ hábitat here, and love to share in their letters to their counterparts in the North about the hábitat Monarchs are surrounded in here in the Sanctuaries.

School time has finished today. Some students play some games outside. It is time go back home to have dinner with Mom, Dad, Grandpa and the rest of the family!
