Welcome to the 2010 Symbolic Monarch Butterfly Migration

The "Symbolic Monarch Butterfly Migration" is starting! Just as the real monarch butterflies are migrating south to their wintering site in Mexico, students are making hand-crafted butterflies carrying messages of goodwill to the students in Mexico.

The packet includes step-by-step instructions. Simply print a copy for reference and planning.

Mail your butterfly and its contents by the postmark deadline: October 12, 2010. Sorry, no exceptions.

Report to Fall Symbolic Migration map after you send your butterfly on its journey. After reporting your class will appear on the map. Participating classrooms across North America can connect.

The Symbolic Migration is an annual exchange that fosters friendship, conservation, and ambassadorship between children across North America.
As you prepare to send your paper ambassadors to Mexico, use these lessons to help reinforce the spirit and objectives of the Symbolic Monarch Migration.

Monarch Butterfly Fund

You may want to make an optional donation to the Monarch Butterfly Fund (MBF). Your donation provides financial and scientific support to protect the wintering habitat of the monarch butterfly.

News from Angangueo, Mexico

Many readers have asked about the rebuilding of Angangueo after last February's flood. Estela Romero, Journey North's local reporter, sends an update. She shares a true sign of her family's strong spirit: Their store--that had been open for 91 years without interruption--has reopened! Here's Estela:
