Tracking Changes in Photoperiod Around the Globe Introducing Mystery Class # 6 Ramstein AFB, Ramstein, Germany 49.450 N 7.550 E MC 6 Ramstein Air Base, Germany Welcome Journey North Mystery Class participants. Hello from Mr. Johnson's Sixth Grade Class. Have you found us, yet? We have been working on finding Mystery Classes, too. Our school is located in a place where the people don't speak English. Our school is Ramstein Intermediate School. Ramstein Intermediate has grades 4-6. Grades K-3 are at Ramstein Elementary School. Ramstein Junior High has grades 7-9. Ramstein High School is grades 10-12. Our school is located on Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. It is part of the Kaiserslautern Military Community. It is the largest U.S. Air Force base outside the United States. So many families live here that some families live in Base Housing and other live off base in German villages. Our base was featured in the hit movie, Air Force One. Believe it or not, the President of the United States of America has actually stopped here. If you saw Air Force One, it has Ramstein Air Force Base in the movie. That is us. What you saw is true. We do have different kinds of planes. While we are at school we hear the planes passing over us all the time. Ramstein, Germany Germany is located on the continent of Europe. We are close to several other countries such as Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Austria. We can visit countries such as Poland, former Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia. You can visit another country for vacation. The border of France is forty-five minutes from here. You can visit Paris for the weekend. Ramstein in located in the southwestern section of Germany, in the state of Rheinland Pfalz. It is located near the Rhein River. Living in Germany we are able to see sights that are not available in the States. We have beautiful old tall brick buildings called castles. There are World War II museums. You can learn about the Middle Ages and actually see things built by the Romans. Ramstein, Germany You can try new foods. We live in one of the three countries that celebrate Fasching. The sights in Germany are spectacular. Instead or Interstate Highways, we have Autobahns. The cars go really fast on the Autobahns. The time is different from the U.S. We are six hours ahead of the East Coast. It is very hard trying to call people in the States because they are sleeping when we awake. When we are on base, it is like living in a town in the U.S. We have a commissary that sells American food and a BX that sells American clothes and other products. We have two movie theaters and a gas station. We have small stores called shoppettes. There are no Malls, though. We have a wide variety of things to do after school. You can play sports like baseball, hockey, football, soccer and basketball. If you are really good, you may be picked to be on an all star team. Then you get to play in a tournament with players from other countries. In Germany, it is cold in the winter. Now and then we get some snow or hail. Luckily, winter is almost over. We enjoy our surroundings. It is beautiful here in the spring. The flowers are starting to bloom. The grass is green as can be. The trees are full with bright green leaves. The birds are coming back from their winter homes. We feel the warmth of the sun in the air. The days are getting longer. It is light when we come to school.
