English Translation of Fernando's Letter From: Luis Fernando Romero February 22, 1998 Last Friday a fire started in Sierra Chincua which lasted approximately 2 or 3 days, Saturday and Sunday, the police came and also the Mexican army in order to try and put out the fire. This was last Saturday and on Sunday and around 12:00 in the afternoon, a house caught fire in the center of town which lasted about a half hour and was caused by excessive sun which heats up the rooftops provoking fires. Another factor is that here the roofs are made of "carton" (a kind of durable compressed paper or cardboard) which raises the possibility of fire. However this fire (in Sierra Chincua) did not affect the trees which have butterflies so you need not worry too much. Of course, this does not do the sanctuary any good given that the air and plants which the butterflies feed on are being contaminated (by the smoke) and this is not good for the butterflies or us. Well, that is all for now. Until later. Greetings to all. Luis Fernando Romero |
