News Flash: Cow/calf pairs have now been sighted in Alaska! April 23, 1999 The "first" cow/calf pairs have now been spotted in Alaska with reports from Seward and Kodiak! April 18: The M/V Tenbears saw two cow/calf pairs and one cow/yearling near Humpback Rocks (57.77 N, -149.52 W) near Kodiak. The calves were 12-15 feet. This Whale Alert sighting was previously reported on the April 21 report, but I did not have the details about the cow/calf pairs at that time. April 20: Bob and Kathy Willard, with Kenai Fjords Tours in Seward, each saw the same cow/calf pair together with another whale nearby, an "outrider", and two others separated by a quarter mile (59.53 N,-149.28W).
