Introducing Mystery Class # 9
Killygordon, Ireland 54.83 N, 07.75 W
We are Mrs. Byrne's class at Dromore
National School, located in Ireland. "Tá fáilte romhat isteach",...that's
Irish for "You're welcome in!"
|
This is our local Roman Catholic church.
|
Our school is in between two small villages. The villages are Killygordon and Crossroads.
It is near a much larger town Ballybofey.

From the church graveyard, this kind of gravestone
belongs to an old tradition in this country..
|
In our area, we have some very historic buildings such as the local Roman Catholic
church.
There is also an old castle that belonged to the O'Donnell Clan.
Our school has six classrooms. There are about 160 pupils in Dromore. We have 26
in our classroom. There are 19 in 5th class and 7 in 4th. Most of the pupils in our
room come to school by bus. There are between 25 to 30 people in each classroom.

A view of a recently restored castle from our area,
it originally belonged to the O'Donnell Clan.
|
We have lots of posters on our walls and we also have our own work on it. We have
information about Australia, Spain and Bullfighting. We have maps of all round the
world.
Our teacher, Mrs Byrne, came to our school two years ago. She lived in Spain for
about 3 years and she taught there. She is small and has short black hair and wears
glasses sometimes. She has one daughter called Elena. It is Spanish for Helen. Mrs
Byrne is a very good teacher.
Mrs Masterson (our principal) has been Principal for about 3 years. Our school
has won lots of awards for computers. 5th and 6th classes learn Spanish. They started
this year. We do not speak our native language but we are learning it.
We also have a very modern wind generator in the area. This windmill is an
experiment in renewable energy a few miles from our school.

You can learn more about our school on our website, which is maintained by Michael
McMullin, who also was a big help with the Mystery Class this year.
Thanks for having us as a secret Mystery Class. For now, we say "Slán
anois", which in Irish means "goodbye now".
