Background Xoshi was an orphaned, debilitated calf (137 cm, 120 lbs) rescued at Riviera Beach on 2 Feb 1995.  She was raised in captivity. She was originally tagged and released from the Miami Seaquarium into Biscayne Bay at the Cutler Ridge Power Plant south of Miami on 4 March 1999.

Xoshi had quite an adventure during her short period of freedom when Journey North followed her last season.  She was the disoriented manatee that got caught in the Gulf Stream and would have been swept out to sea if not for the speedy response and team effort to rescue her on 30 March 1999.

After her rescue, she remained at Sea World until May, at which time she was transferred to the Lowry Park Zoo. On 22 February 2000, Xoshi was tagged and released again, this time from Blue Spring S.P. near Orange City, FL.  She is now in excellent condition, and is 279 cm long and weighs about 1300 lbs.
