Swallow Migration Did you know that a Barn Swallows might fly 600 miles in a single day, in order to capture enough insects to eat? For swallows, long-distance migration is a lot like a typical day--except that they travel in a straight line instead of in circles! 1) There are eight swallows species in North America. Take a look at a Field Guide to the Birds of North America, and find out which species will be coming your way this spring. 2) While you're waiting, enjoy these fun facts about swallows. 3) Keep your eyes on the skies and report the FIRST swallows of spring to arrive in your region! (If you live in the southern U.S. or Mexico, where some swallows spend the winter, please report your swallows NOW.)
