Report the FIRST Earthworms you see this Spring to Journey North!

Even though they only travel a few feet, earthworms undergo a "vertical" migration each spring after the ground thaws. The appearance of the first earthworms is a welcome sign of spring, and is often closely tied to the arrival of the first robins.

1. In his book, "North With the Spring", Edwin Way Teale describes this unusual migration. Read his description so you'll know what to watch for. Then keep your eyes opened for migrating worms.

2. When you see your FIRST earthworms of the season, please report to Journey North.

Watch for Signs of Spring
Twice each month, Journey North will post news about various Signs of Spring--including the appearance of the first earthworms of the season. So your sightings of first earthworms, red-winged blackbirds, frogs, emerging leaves, flowing sap, melting ice, and other spring events will to be incorporated into Monday's "Signs of Spring" updates.
