Length 248 cm, weight 680 lbs. at time she was captured and tagged at Port of the Islands, a series
of man-made canals at the north end of the Faka Union Canal (25.961N, -81.509W), which leads to the Faka Union
Bay in Ten Thousand Islands. The crew was surprised when this female swam in the net! Addison is the
5-year old wild born calf of "Naples" a previously captive manatee. Naples had been rescued
in 1987 with rib fractures and other injuries after a collision with a boat. She was successfully rehabilitated
and released in Charlotte Harbor in 1994, and gave birth to Addison in 1995. |
