News Flash: Ice-out on Finland's River Teno
May 3rd at 2:06 PM was the official breakup time for ice on the Teno River! Here's the official news just received from teacher Annikkki Lauerma in Utsjoki, Finland:

Hello from Utsjoki!
Utsjoki, Finland

This is to inform about the ice-out of the River Teno today in the afternoon at 2.06. The pole that marked the sighting passed the S·mi Saldi bridge. This spring has been exceptionally warm and last week was very sunny. The water is still rising although we don't expect any major floods this year.

What makes the springs always so special here are the light nights; today the sun rose at 3.34 AM and set at 10.49 PM. About a fortnight and we'll enjoy the midsummer sunshine day and night!

Many local people prefer fishing in the River Teno at night. But it still takes some time for the salmon to head upstream after all the ice blocks are gone.

Best regards,
Annikki Lauerma

No Winner!
We received no contest entries for the River Teno for a good reason! The early ice-out caught us by surprise and we hadn't yet asked for your entries. OOPS! The contest was a freeze out for THIS observations post, but you can still enter your guesses for the others:
