News Flash! Eleven Chicks Home at Necedah!
Whoopee! Migration is complete for 15 Eastern whoopers as of Monday, April 14! Eleven
whooping crane chicks from the 2002 ultralight-led flock and four of the five 2001 birds were home on Necedah
National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin. Three more chicks (02-#1, #11, and #12) that broke off Sunday from the group
of ten over Ogle County, IL, are in nearby Fond du Lac County (Wisconsin), so they?re close. The remaining three
of the 21 Eastern birds are somewhere enroute, with trackers still trying to pinpoint their locations. Two are
chicks (#9 and #14), and one is the elusive female #7 from HY2001, missing in action.
Will trackers find them? Will the three reach Necedah national Wildlife Refuge before our next report on April
18? Stay tuned. You?ll find more exciting details and new photos in Friday?s regularly scheduled whooping crane
report!
The Next Crane Migration Update Will Be Posted on April 18, 2003.
