Hummingbird Migration Update: April 15, 2003 (Data
Only)
Today's Report Includes:
Rufous Hummingbirds
Make Big Push into Alaska!
Despite cooler than average temperatures, Mike
Patterson reports that Rufous
Hummingbirds made a big push into Alaska last week, with many now in the
Juneau area. Two Rufous Hummingbirds were also reported east of the Cascades,
in Winfield, British Columbia and Peshastin, Washington. High numbers
of Rufous Hummingbirds are still being reported
around feeders west of the Cascades.
If YOU see a Rufous Hummingbird in the West, make sure you report it
to Mike Patterson.
And if you see hummers, make sure you let him know if any flowers are
blooming, too!
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
Reach Lake Michigan!
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are still making
steady progress. Do you think one will cross the border into Canada this
week?
Lanny Chambers does such an extraordinary job of compiling
all this hummingbird data that we bet he's impatient to see his own hummingbird
turn up. When do you think his first hummingbird will arrrive? See the
first dates his hummingbirds appeared in recent years here:
