News Flash: Ice-out on the Tanana River at Nenana, Alaska!

April 29, 2003

April 29, 2003 at 6:22 p.m. Alaska Standard Time was the official breakup time for ice on the Tanana River! Earlier than many of the more recent ice out dates!

CONGRATULATIONS to RHAM Middle School, Period E in Hebron, CT, who had the closest guess of May 1!

This compares with ice-out dates of May 7th last year and May 8th in 2001. In addition to 2001, 2002, and 2003, recent breakups for the Tanana River include May 1st, May 5th and May 14th.
