Introducing Mystery Class #1
Asmara, Eritrea (15.333 N, 38.883 E)

Greetings from Asmara!

We are the Grade 4 class at Asmara International Community School, in Asmara, Eritrea.

Our teacher is Ms. Lisa Ellis and she is from Houston, Texas.

There are nine students in our class and we come from Kenya, Brazil, Bosnia, Sri Lanka, Germany, France, America, and our host country, Eritrea.

Asmara is the capital of Eritrea. Eritrea is a small country on the Red Sea. It is also known as the 'Pearl of the Red Sea'. Part of 'The Horn of Africa', Eritrea is a relatively new country. After 30 years of war with Ethiopia, Eritrea won her independence in 1991.

This photo shows an Eritrean village, and the lifestyle led by the people there.

The Italians once colonized Asmara; so much of the architecture and 'flavor' of the city is Italian. Because Asmara is in the highlands, the temperature is rather mild; however, the sun can be very intense so sun block is necessary.

This tree is a Bayobab tree. It looks like an upside down tree when all the leaves are off. It's very common in this region.

In Sudan they are very common and used to collect water during the rainy season and used as goards.

We hope that you had fun learning a little about our host city and country, Asmara, Eritrea.
