Symbolic Migration Update: April 28, 2004

Today's Report Includes:

Symbolic Monarchs Making Final Migration Journey
It has been very busy at the Journey North headquarters this past month! Workers enjoyed seeing all the beautiful symbolic butterflies come in and go out as they filled each of your envelopes with returning butterflies.
After weeks of work and many batches of homemade popcorn and cookies your packages of symbolic monarchs are now on the final leg of their long migration journey - back to your classroom!

Happy workers were eventually engulfed by the migrating butterflies!

Do you see YOUR school's envelope here?

44 Boxes of Envelopes
When the mailman arrived to take the butterflies away he made sure he had an empty truck. Even so, the pile of butterflies was staggering. We fit boxes in until they filled every square inch of that U.S. Mail truck. Mailman Jim Engh was a pro when it came to filling his truck. Thirty-four boxes of envelopes were all it could fit. We called in a reserve vehicle to transport the final 10 boxes to the station.

Celebrate the Message of Ambassadorship
We hope you realize the excitement your butterflies have sparked all across North America. The symbolic monarchs that we exchange are ambassadors that carry messages between students both in Mexico and the rest of North America.

All winter long, children poured through the butterflies looking for favorites, parents read messages aloud to their children, people posed for photos, and a general sense of international goodwill prevailed.
The symbolic monarch you receive expresses friendship, and appreciation for the role we all play in monarch conservation.

Viva la Fiesta!

We have tried our best to have your butterflies complete their journey by May 5 – Cinco de Mayo – a special day of celebration in Mexico. This is a day for all Mexicans to celebrate pride, independence, and freedom. Parties all over Mexico celebrate with songs, dance, piñatas and fireworks. Learn more about Cinco de Mayo:

Watch your mailbox for this special package to arrive and – Viva la Fiesta!
