"The Southern red oak tree is big and it represents our school. ...The leaves have changed colors. Over a thousand brown, orange, red, yellow and gold leaves fall each year. Southern red oaks have leaves with pointed lobes and a bell shape at the bottom. Our tree's protection zone is about 160 feet. The roots begin twelve to eighteen inches below the grass. Our tree's root hairs absorb water and vitamins." 11/26/13 Charlotesville, Virginia
