Luna Moths
The luna moth is one of the most spectacular moths found in North America. They can be found in eastern North America and north into southeastern Canada. Look for them near forested areas. They are attracted to well-lit places in the evening hours. It's a distinctive moth with a 3-4" wingspan, a sea-foam green color, and long tails on its hind wings. Luna larvae molt 5 times before spinning a cocoon. The adult has no proboscis, relying on the food energy stored in their body during larval stages. Once you see one it is very hard to forget!
"A LUNA MOTH! A luna moth was sighted at the Valley Grove Church in Nerstrand, Minnesota. I could tell it was a luna moth, by the "tails" on its wings." 07/06/14
