Celebrating Monarchs
The end of October through the first days of November are very exciting days for Mexicans living near the monarch sanctuaries. Traditionally the first monarchs arrive in their overwintering region at this time. Their arrival is closely tied to the celebration of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. For many Mexicans the monarchs symbolize their ancestors' souls returning to Earth for their annual visit.
