With its insistent call, the first Killdeer of spring is usually heard before it's seen.

"Today is a cold, windy, snowy day and I saw my first Killdeer of the season. It flew to a wet area across the road. A week ago even the wet spot was covered with snow. I sure hope winter breaks soon for all the birds arriving that expect to find food and start nesting!"
