Another Irruption
A large number of early sightings of snowy owls in December has birders excited for a possible repeat of last year's exciting irruption. An irruption is an irregular influx of birds — instead of the normal migration into an area. In this case, snowy owls are moving into territories south of their normal range, probably driven by lack of food sources in the north.
