Chipmunks
The eastern chipmunk spends most of the winter in its burrow. This little rodent doesn't actually hibernate, but can lower its body temperature to lower metabolism and keep energy use to a minimum. In the typical chipmunk burrow there are several chambers - including some where seeds, bulbs and tree nuts are kept for winter food supply. Chipmunks are diurnal, so you will only see them active in daylight.

"We saw a chipmunk on the deck munching on sunflower seeds and peanuts. This really is a week ahead of schedule! I think he will nestle back in his burrow..... it is only 3° above today!" 02/26/15 Random Lake, Wisconsin
