Personality and History

Migration Training: In his early weeks, Mark said 513 is still very aggressive. When #508 and #509 were getting along well for a week or two, trainers very slowly (and painfully) tried adding #513 with them to form a little group. We could not try him with any other group because all were too small and submissive. Training the three together went surprisingly well. Chick 508 had also been very aggressive, but grew out of it and now allows 513 to dominate this group. Chick 513 throws a few quick pecks at the beginning of each training session to make sure everyone knows who is in charge, but that is about it.

He was stung in the face by a bee and the swelling caused his bill to grow crooked. On July 4, he began having trouble breathing. On July 6 he was removed from the study because his crooked bill would hurt his chances of surviving in the wild.
