October 9, 2006: Migration Day 5
REALLY Windy
With winds
from the northwest (tailwinds instead of headwinds), the pilots
thought the migration could finally resume. The
ground crew headed for the travel pen while all four ultralights
and top
cover
plane took-off. But once aloft, the pilots faced winds out of the
southwest. Half way to the birds' pen, Joe realized it wouldn't
work. He called off
the flight. What a disappointment! They're still in Juneau County,
Wisconsin, only 4 miles from home.
