Bad News Weather
After yesterday's flight, the team was dismayed to awaken to 46°F, winds blowing 10 to 15 mph out of the west, and rain. No flying today! Worse news: The rain may turn into snow showers by afternoon. Do you think they're doomed to another string of delays? So far, what distance has the migration come?

It's a no-fly day for the ultralight planes, but the birds are built to cope. Sometimes the team lets the birds out of their travel pen for some exercise, as in today's photo from Marie.

In the Classroom

  • Today's Journal Question: Rain, temperature, or winds: which is likely the biggest factor in today's no-fly decision? See Pilot's Checklist: Weather or Not?) What things do you do that are affected by the day's weather? When have you been disappointed to change plans due to the weather?
  • Record Keeping: Make another hatch mark in the "no-fly" space on your migration comparison chart.
