Watching From the Blind
White River Marsh SWA Training Site

Journey North's Jane Duden watched training on September 24 from inside a little hut made of hay bales. It's a good hiding spot for humans, and that's why it's called a blind. Most of the cranes were willing to fly on this day but several turned back, or else wouldn't leave the runway. Below you see three eager birds go with the pilot. The second photo shows the grounded cranes getting treats in front of their pen. The pilots hoped that the birds would then follow the ultralight's next takeoff and get some distance away. It was exciting to watch!
