This young crane pokes and pecks at its new snap-on radio transmitter and antenna. You can see why the birds might not like them! Soon they will be used to the lightweight "jewelry." The band enable the birds to be radio tracked if they ever get separated on the migration. These temporary transmitters will be removed and replaced with permanent ones once the birds arrive in Florida. And, they will continue to beep-beep as long as their batteries last.
