Back to Crane #4-14's bio page
Heather (in costume) entertained #4 with some floating mealworms while his cohort trains with the aircraft on September 8. The young chick is sidelined from training until his leg heals.

"He SO wanted to fly," reported Heather. He peeped loudly each time the trike passed by with the six girl cranes. He flapped and ran across the width of the wet pen. His limp is barely noticeable now. The team doesn't want him to get re-injured, so they will take it slow in getting him back into the line-up. Once the day's training was over, the team let #4 out onto the runway to mingle with his pals and to be near the aircraft. He leaped and danced—and even took off on a short flight over the pen site! He's a brave, good bird.

While on the disabled list for a few days, #4 gets entertained with floating mealworms.
