October 15, 2001 Too Windy, Big Day Delayed Photo WCEP Strong headwinds today have delayed the cranes' departure. The first leg of the journey requires about 48 minutes of non-stop flight. The birds have only flown for 27 minutes at the longest. With today's headwind blowing 13-19 mph from the south, the flight would take 90 minutes. This is more than the birds can do this early in the migration, so we'll all have to continue to wait... Try This!
