Cranes Turn Back: Still in Morgan County
Today's flight turned into just an exercise flight. All 16 cranes took off from Morgan County, but soon discovered that SSW winds (that means winds from the south/southwest) had increased. The birds are smart enough to NOT fly into a headwind. They know it's simply too much work for too little progress! So... several birds turned back. Worried about all the birds dropping out and then needing to round them up again, the pilots also did the smart thing. They led the birds back to the field from where they had just launched. The flight lasted 15 minutes for a short story called: Headwind + 63.3 F. Warm Temps = No Progress Today. Will tomorrow bring them to their final stopover in the state of Indiana?
