November 5, 2001 Day 20
Hooray! The birds flew another 57 miles today! The crew departed at 7:42 this morning under sunny conditions after de-frosting the aircraft wings. Once airborne they climbed to 1400 ft attitude and were helped by a tailwind for the first part of the flight. The winds then shifted from the SE and they descended to a much lower altitude, but the headwind slowed them for the remainder of the flight. They landed at 9:42 in Morgan County, IN and the birds are doing fine. This is stop number 7 in the 1250-mile migration. (Crane #4 is still being driven.) Sunday, day 19, was a rest day for the young cranes after their long flight on Saturday.
