Day 24

Down and Out in Boone County

Photo OM for WCEP

It's another disappointing day on the ground due to poor flying conditions. Exactly one year ago yesterday, November 4, the migration took off from this site. The journey south is stalled at 335.5 miles gone---but everyone hopes tomorrow will bring good flying weather and a landing at the next stop in Indiana.

Meanwhile, what do you think makes a good stopover site for an ultralight-led migration? Brainstorm ideas. Keeping the equipment, birds, and protocol in mind, can you think of five good requirements? See how your list compares to Joe's:

  • How many miles has the migration averaged in the 24 days since they left Necedah? Compare this average to the one you calculated on November 2 (day 21, with 287.2 miles gone). Why has the average changed?
