Cranes Reach Stop #16

Photo Operation Migration

The ultralights and six cranes took off with serious frost and light fog from Coweta County, GA at 8:36 a.m. They covered 40.8 miles, settling in Pike County, Georgia at 9:42 a.m. The 6 cranes formed perfectly off the wing of the lead trike as they took off. With an air temperature reading of 60F the team decided not to forge too far ahead as it would have been difficult on the birds to fly any great distance in these warm temperatures.

Try This! Journaling Questions

  • How long did the cranes fly today? How far are they from their final destination?
  • Why do you think this particular route between Wisconsin and Florida was chosen by the flight team?
