April 9, 2002 Weather conditions right for take-off on April 9th? From April 6th-8th, watch the high pressure system move from west to east, north of Florida. On April 6th the high pressure system is northwest of Florida so winds are from the north. When the high pressure moves eastward on the 7th and 8th, winds shift to the southeast. (This is because wind flow around the high pressure system is clockwise. Winds shift from northerly to southerly as a high moves from west to east. At the same time, the barometer falls because a low pressure system is approaching.)
Note the similarities to the weather pattern on March 24th, when the first wild whoopers in Texas are believed to have taken off. Copyright 2002 Journey North. All Rights Reserved.
