After those first two tries, Al and Diane brought many chicks. For many years, Canadian biologists took the second egg from the nest and hatched it in captivity, since usually only one chick survived anyway. (See Journey North's slide show called The Big Egg Hunt.) In 1997, the very first year when both eggs were left in the nests, Al and Diane brought two chicks to Aransas NWR for the winter. In 2006, they once again brought two chicks. They brought two chicks in 2008 and again in 2010.
