For the next two years, Scarbaby stayed at the flock's winter home at Aransas NWR. Never before had any Whooping crane failed to migrate from Texas for two years in a row! Birders on the tour boats by Aransas watched for this special bird. What would happen next?

The scar is the lighter black, slightly curved line on the upper neck (not the top of the head).
