About Observation Post #8
Point Piedras Blancas, California, United States

Biologist Wayne Perryman (with National Marine Fisheries Service) counts the mothers and calves that pass Point Piedras Blancas. The new babies are on their first journey north each spring. The cows and calves are the last whales to leave the warm lagoons in Mexico and swim north. A team watches 12 hours a day, six days a week.
