Field Notes 2011
Half Moon Bay, California, United States

Sherry and the Queen of Hearts crew report from their 50-foot sport fishing vessel:

April 27: The weather on the ocean was pretty rotten this winter so we didn't get a chance to run very many whale watching trips, and now our fishing season has opened so our whale watching trips are over for the year. There are still a few boats running whale watching trips, though, and I heard last trip out this past weekend they did find a gray whale heading north right along the coastline just outside the harbor here in Half Moon Bay. That typically marks the beginning of the end of the gray whale migration in our area when we start seeing them that close.

March 13: Tsunami didn't have any impact on Half Moon Bay...all is well in our area. We have only run a couple of whale watching trips this year, so there's nothing much to report right now. Hopefully we'll be able to run a few more trips the last weekend of this month. If there's anything interesting, I'll pass it along.
