This image shows a well-marked mother making her way with her calf (not seen) through Slip Stream, a direct path through the kelp, just to the left of Counter Point. Some whales do head clockwise around the kelp, but many have adopted this path that brings the whale a bit closer to us. Yes, we like that very much. It also helps with the photo-ID.
