January 1, 2013: Gray Whales were migrating south, quite far out on the ocean. But six young Grays, part of the small pod that did not migrate and stayed off the Mendocino/Sonoma Coasts, swam here quite close to shore. They were seen off The Sea Ranch, then Gualala, and then off the Point Arena Pier. One whale came so close it actually swam under the pier. Very exciting for everyone who was there.
