Setting Records?
It's shaping up to be a record-breaking season! By February 1st, 2015, trained volunteer spotters had only to tally 82 more southbound whales to become first place in the 31 seasons of the ACS-LA Gray Whale Census and Behavior Project in Los Angeles County, CA. Word from the nursery lagoons is "Lots of babies!" Gray whales usually travel in small groups of two to three. This year spotters have seen some megapods, including two southbound groups (15 whales and 12 whales) in a single day. What surprises await us as the journey north begins?
