Counting Moms and Babies
Every spring, mother gray whales lead their babies from their birthplace in warm Mexican lagoons on the long journy north to Arctic summer feeding grounds. And every spring since 1993, NOAA Fisheries scientists count the number of newborn calves heading north. Why do they count the calves each year?
