One
summer, scientists used special under-water sound recorders to listen
to gray whales in the Arctic Ocean north of Alaska. One of the recorders
was almost a mile deep.
When the whales headed south in the fall, the scientists had trouble
bringing that recorder up, so they left it behind. All winter, it
sat under the ice at the bottom of the sea. When the scientists
finally brought the sound recorder up in the spring, what do you
think they heard?
