Looking for Seasonal Cues
Is it time to say farewell to your hummers as the season winds down? Watch for seasonal cues and weather events:

"Today (Sept. 26) matches last year's final sighting date for hummers in our yard. Two females were off to bed last night at 7:17 p.m. It's a wonder how they know the days shorten. They go to roost a minute or so earlier each evening as another hummer season draws to close. I don't expect to see any hummers tonight."

"After a rainy day and cold night, a female hummer made two feeder visits— one at 15 minutes before sunrise and one at two minutes after sunrise. The cold wind blowing out of the north will help her start the long journey south.”
