| Transferring Pollen Pollination occurs at any time of year that flowers are blooming. As a hummingbird dips its bill into a flower to drink nectar, sticky pollen clings to its bill and feathers. The bird carries the pollen to stigmas of similar plants as it travels from flower to flower. Many native plants on whose flowers hummingbirds feed heavily rely on them for pollination.
