Exploring Image of the Week

Migration news updates feature an Image of the Week. As students examine a photo, challenge them to think and act like scientists — describing details, writing questions, and posing hypotheses:

Inspire Close Observation

Ask a variety of questions to help students carefully examine photos. Encourage them to observe details, make comparisons, interpret what they see, and consider new information.

Share the Wonder

Invite students to look carefully at a photo and fill thought-balloons with their wonderings: thoughts, feelings, questions, and hypotheses.

Build Communication and Descriptive Writing Skills

Use the Quest for Details page to help students find the words to describe details they observe in an image. Invite them to use the collected words and phrases to write possible captions for the photo.
