Hands-On
The banding process involves lots of careful handling. As each mist-net captured bird is brought to the table and examined, the time, date, and net location are noted. The bird's species, approximate age, gender, molt condition, and banding number is recorded. Each rubythroat is marked under the chin with a temporary blue dye, then the birds are weighted and released.
