How Does the Forest Protect Monarch Butterflies?
Think by Analogy

Dr. Lincoln Brower says the monarch's forest is like an umbrella and a blanket. His new research shows that the tree trunks in the forest act like hot water bottles. Dr. Brower is comparing the forest to things that are familiar—blankets, umbrellas and hot water bottles. He is trying to help us understand how the forest protects monarch butterflies by using analogies. (An analogy is a method of explaining something unfamiliar by comparing it to something that is familiar.) Analogies help us understand new things because they draw upon our past experiences. Use analogies to describe how the forest protects monarch butterflies.

How is a forest like an umbrella?

How is a forest like a blanket?

How is a tree-trunk like a hot water bottle?

Describe how the forest protects monarch butterflies. Use these (or your own) analogies in your description.
