On behalf of her parents, presumably a male and female monarch who overwintered in Mexico, Ms. Carol Cullar is proud to announce the arrival of a spring 2009 first generation monarch.

Date of birth: Sunday, April 26, 2009

Place of birth: Eagle Pass, Texas

Gender: Female

Life cycle (egg to adult): 23 days

Typical Weight: 500 mg

Typical Wingspan: 10 cm

This young female should soon have hundreds of siblings across the southern United States. All will come from eggs that were layed by their mother as she traveled from Mexico. After they are born, these monarchs will continue the migration in place of their parents. During their short life (only 4-6 weeks) they will migrate and also produce offspring of their own.

Welcome to the world, first generation monarchs!
